WALT: write a report on a school event.
On Friday the year five and six students got to go on a trip to the Bromley rubbish centre to learn about recycling and compost and no it did not smell bad like everyone thinks. At first we learned about the perfect compost recipe.
Brown (eg. leafs, hay.)
water
green (grass,weeds,food scrapes)
Microbes (dirt)
Air (poke some wholes in the compost)
warmth (blanket on top, sun)
That order is the perfect recipe to hot compost. We got to make some compost using that recipe and it will take up to a year to break down.
Next we learned about worms and worm bins and how to make bedding for them. Worm bedding is newspaper dipped in water and squeezed out, when you have done that you lay it on top of all the dirt and stuff in the worm bin. The worms eat and sleep in it, which when you think about it is pretty weird.
After we did all the stuff with the worms we learned about how to recycle properly and about which kind of plastics can go in the recycling and which can not.
It was super fun and improved our knowledge about looking after the environment.
